WiserAngel Needs Advice

Hey, I've been toying with cutting my hair for about a month. Trust me, it takes about a day for it to dry naturally or an hour if I blow dry it. Then another hour to straighten it. Pain in the ass and with working out as much as I try to do, it just got really tiresome. I spend 90% of my time with it in a ponytail like this:

Which is fine, but as I found out in Krav class, long hair (especially in a pony-tail) can be used as a handle. A painful handle. I fixed it to go into Big A today and was shocked at how long it's gotten. I'm talking down between my shoulder blades.

So I'm thinking, about half of it gone, maybe a chin-length bob. So what do y'all think? Cut it or keep it? I've already gotten one Hell No. (Still going to get bangs or start selling ad space on that massive forehead.)

My wife says the chin length bob would be perfect for you. Also, try a medium round brush to use with a good blow dryer on med heat will cut down the straightening time unless you have super curly hair. She also recommends the bangs.

I of course no nothing of these things.

You need to change your blog pic to the one with it down. Hits will skyrocket.

Dangerous waters!

Good thing I'm fearless!

I am of the opinion, that as a woman grows older, it is appropriate to shorten the length of her hair. This next statement is in no way directed at you. It is a generalization! When women are young, their hair is shiny and healthy looking. As they age, the hair loses that shine and healthy look.

By keeping hair shorter, the most damaged parts are cut off, and what is left is newer, and thus the healthiest part remains. Overall, I think it just looks more dignified, as in someone accepting that they are indeed getting a bit older, and are accepting of it. When I see a 60 year old women with long hair, it just gives me the impression that this person is unwilling to accept what is natural.

With that said, I think you would look great with the hair cut shown in the bottom pic! I have often gone back and forth between long and short hair - short is sooo much easier to take care of!

You asked for opinions. I have offered you my honest one.

Terry, I used to have my pic and profile on the side, but I don't know what happened to it and don't know how to get it back. But I changed it to that for my profile pic.

timbo, I don't really fight aging beyond coloring the gray. I let mine grow mostly because I don't like to go to salons, the stylists usually run and hide when I come in, so I get it cut once or twice a year whether it needs it or not. I think I'm going to go for the bob. If I don't like it, so what? It's hair. It grows. ;-D

Depends on how curly it is. As a professional hairdresser, I always recommend curly haired people to find a cut and style that works with the curls. An hour spent straightening hair is an hour wasted and the poor hair always ends up looking tortured.

The picture of the bob you have is an excellent length and shape for your face. I would move the widest part of the style up just a hair (no pun intended)to about the eye level. That is the narrowest part of your face.

My only caution is to hunt down a stylist that is used to working with curly hair. Keep your eyes peeled for woman with curly hair who look fabulous. Tell them you love their hair and ask who cuts it.

Exactly!

And there are few things I dislike as much as sitting still for a haircut. It's always been one of those situations where I feel trapped and not in control.

Adrienne, it used to be CURLY, but I have a Brocatto straightener on it and it's more that there's so freaking much of it to dry and straighten, not so much the curl.

My wife used to straighten her hair (I can't believe I'm talking about hair) until she found a curly girl stylist. It looks waaay better now.

TexasT, care to chime in?

You look very pretty with your hair down, the bob would look very nice too. That length is very flattering on you... :-)

With that said, I miss your curls, and you would just let them air dry. Easy peasy. I'm not sure if that's something you can even consider with the kind of straightener you have. Just saying I've always thought natural with a flattering cut looks the best. Hey, you can't go wrong with red curls ;-)

But if you can't go back to curls, I say, yes honey, get the bob, you'll feel lighter, and less hair will take less time... Love you, and love the new profile pic :-)

To add your profile pic to your blog sidebar, Go to DESIGN on top, then LAYOUT, ADD A GADGET, scroll down till you find ADD PROFILE PIC... et voilĂ  ;-)

Thank you MissK. I think I have to let the old straightened hair grow out and cut it off before the curls will look right. I haven't refreshened the straightener, been almost a year.

Was going to add a pic of my curls, but can't find one on my laptop.

Which one you want? ;-)

Holy shit did we learn a few things on this subject. I be weighing in a little late but what a great bunch of comments and productive thoughts. This is why we follow your and other III blogs.
MissK is right on as is Addrienne.
Ginger and I go to the same gal. Carries a glock 40 and when I'm in the chair she is a barber. When Ginger is up---she is a stylist.
This way Ginger pays.
Love ALL the responders

OK, i read this the first time at 0200. It's 1000 now and after some thought, I say go for it. Sweet wife keeps her hair on the short side and it works well for her. And it's a lot shorter than the bob in the picture.

Besides that, it's your head.

I think you would look good in the chin length Bob!

Shave it. My wife does, and it looks good with some grey. So much easier to brush, not to mention the shampoo lasts longer.
